Los Chinches: Chicha love from London

London's very own Amazonian Cumbia band Los Chinches present their jungle grooves and psychedelic vibes direct from London Town.

Born in the heat of the British summer Los Chinches brought together a diverse and dynamic mix of musicians who had all caught the Chicha bug. Taking influence from the raw, gritty sound of the early Peruvian pioneers and adding their own eclectic touch the band is creating a new sound.

Los Chinches interpretation of Chicha music is very much their own, with backgrounds in many musical styles from rock n' roll to jazz to Latin, fusing London's punk attitude and spirit with timeless Amazonian vibes. Their sound and live performance is a psychedelic burst of energy driven by a fierce frontline of percussion.

Los Chinches have enjoyed a whirl wind year of shows in the UK, rocking venues all over London such as The Barbican (as part of La Linea festival) The Green Note, Cargo and Passing Clouds (for Arriba la Cumbia and Movimientos). They’ve also appeared at some of the UK's most prestigious and exciting festivals including Lovebox, The Secret Garden Party and a headline slot at the Club DaDa tent at Bestival.

Their debut EP showcases two original tracks and a version of a song by the late, great Juaneco y Su Combo. Currently, the band are amassing material and working on their debut album, to be completed early 2010. In the meantime, Los Chinches are fulfilling their love of performing with gigs all around London and the UK.

"A formidable live force" (Jamie Renton - Chilli Fried DJ and journalist)

"You are the best Chincha [sic] band I've ever seen" (Various)

"Judging by the reaction of the audience, it just goes to show that even with the most obscure roots, the entertainment value of this music is ubiquitous." (Jessica Jade - Musicouch)
