Quantic & his Combo Barbaro : 27th July, London

After successful shows at the Roundhouse and the Barbican in recent years, Quantic brings his Combo Barbaro to London for one exclusive and intimate date at Koko.
The latest project from Will ‘Quantic’ Holland, the Combo Bárbaro is an exceptional group of multi-cultural musicians who create a sonic snapshot of the ever-evolving musical landscape of the Americas.

Since settling in Cali in 2007, Holland has set up an analogue studio and put together a core group of pianist Alfredo Linares, who wowed the sell-out crowds with his virtuoso performances on The Quantic Soul Orchestra’s 2008 tour; Freddy Colorado, a cornerstone of the Cali music circuit, on congas; Fernando Silva on bass; Holland himself on electric guitar; and London-based drummer and long time Quantic collaborator Malcolm Catto, also well known for his own band The Heliocentrics.

The result is a rich multi-cultural stew, bathed but not exclusively rooted in Colombian musical culture, embracing the musical range of all the American continent – honoring and utilising its contributors’ to create a unique brand of contemporary music that is a joy to listen to, and a live experience that defies comparison.

Tradition In Transition also benefits incalculably from the talents of revered Brazilian writer, arranger and musical innovator Arthur Verocai, who scored a 12 piece string section on several themes. Legendary Panamanian soul singer Kabir lends his rich vocals to two tracks (including the single, “Linda Morena”). Indian-born singer Falu, now USA-based, brings a beguiling mix of North Indian Classical and rock-influenced vocal styles; and Pacific folklore singer and award-winning writer Nidia Gángora contributes her beautiful song “Un Canto A Mi Tierra”.
